In order to turn salt water into drinking water, you need to desalinate it first.Basically, what it does is extract drinkable water from the water you took from the sea through evaporation and condensation.

A couple of containers made of glass or metal to contain the salt water and the fresh water, and a heat source is really all you need for a simple distillation setup.

The sand acts as the heat sink for both containers. One for evenly heating the first container up, the other to cool the second container and allow condensation.

The glass bottle method of distillation is similar to the glass bowl method, but it has a few more advantages. For one thing, when the process is over you will already have the distilled water in a bottle and won’t have to worry about transferring it from a large bowl to a bottle.
