Imagine bicycle without chain. Can it work as well as regular one? Well.. let’s watch this cool experiment and find out.Yes, this prototype works but definitely needs some modifications.

A shaft driven bicycle uses a chainless mechanism using drive shafts to transmit the power generated by the rider’s foot from the pedal to the rear wheel.

A drive shaft can be defined as a rod-like component that is used to transmits torque from the engine of the vehicle to the wheels.

The first thing to notice is that the whole system is very clean, minimalist and built into the frame of the bike. That’s right – the shaft-drive doubles up as the chainstay of the frame.

It’s much more compact than a chain drive system. There are no exposed parts, and no day-to-day maintenance with a shaft-drive system.

Watch the video from The Q where he builds a custom shaft driven bicycle. You could start with the front end of a bike, and part of a frame, but the whole wheel, shaft drive, gears, and back of the frame will have to be custom.
