The IRIS eTrike, designed by Grant Sinclair, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of urban mobility. Grant Sinclair, nephew of the inventor Sir Clive Sinclair, has released images of an updated version of his Iris eTrike, and is being prepared for mass production.

The EPP foam body construction is lightweight but robust and the vehicle is said to be, “designed to be safe like riding inside a large crash helmet. ”Exceptionally agile with go-kart like handling. Punctureproof Tannus cargo tyres avoid need for regular tyre changes.

Cabin includes a universal smartphone dock for GPS, music playback and calorie count etc. IRIS includes a built-in 120˚rear-view camera which streams real-time video to the riders docked iPhone® or Android® mobile device.

Grant Sinclair announced production model features a chromoly steel chassis, an EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam body with a polymer shell, a clear Plexiglass hinged canopy with a water-repellant coating, a 9-speed drivetrain and a relatively high (but still reclined) seating position which allows the rider to better see the road around them.

Capable of reaching speeds of over 30 mph (48 km/h) and a range of approx 30 miles (48 km) from a single battery charge. IRIS is a consumer friendly, electric version of Earth’s fastest, human powered bicycles. The futuristic body design is inspired by aerodynamic helmets used for velodrome bike racing.
The unit is also designed to be economically sound with usage amounting to around five pence per 50km of travel. Twin hydraulic disc breaks also provide maximum stopping power for road situations and added LED headlamps, indicator-repeaters and break lights aid in visibility. The trike features a lockable rear compartment that is capable of carrying up to 50 litres.
Portable Lithium-Ion battery with 50.4v 19.6Ah capacity pack provides range of 30+ miles on a single charge. Portable charger (included) has 4Amp rapid charging capability. MOTOR: Choice of three powerful Bafang mid drive motors enables IRIS to easily get up steep hills:M215 – 250 watt (80Nm),M315 – 500 watt (100Nm),M615 – 750/1000 watt (160Nm).
